Anime on DVD interview
In early 2005 I was interviewed by Paul Jacques of Anime on DVD, as part of his bold attempt to set the record straight on a number of assumptions about the anime business, particularly in the UK. It wasn't long before other pundits were putting words in my mouth and then refuting them with made-up statistics and fanboy solecisms, but the interview itself does put a few popular misconceptions to rest.
- Part One in which we try to determine who buys anime, and why there were only 500 people at conventions when Overfiend sells in the tens of thousands.
- Part Two in which we discuss the values of television and ask whether the quality of anime is not strained.
- Part Three in which we talk of critics and the media's strange habit of redefining "anime" to mean whatever they need it to mean on any given day.
